Beautiful nature, good food, and great accommodation creates love, so they say. So why wouldn’t we fall in love …
From ages ago Serbia is renowned as a country with great natural and cultural potentials, but only with development of village tourism it became clear of its great possibilities . In village tourism, with its further development, people have seen their chance to easier survive and live in the village. Most importantly, they managed to stop young people leaving from villages to cities. Life without rush, tension is something that characterize village life, and which we rarely meet in nowadays, so the guests also “maintain” this life style. But, let’s not talk more than we should. Photographs will certainly show you much more. Do not hesitate!

Kosjerić http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/kosjeric/ http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/kosjeric/#comments Tue, 24 Aug 2010 12:57:45 +0000 admin http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/?p=91 KOSJERIĆ is located in western Serbia, half way between Valjevo and Užice. Largest number of settlements is located in river valleys, on the intersections of forests, fields and meadows, so that this region represents, by its natural beauties, an ideal place for country vacation fanciers. Vicinity of famous tourist centers Zlatibor (56 km away) and Divčibare (26 km away), traditionally rich cuisine, extremely polite hosts, and good traffic connections, are main characteristics of tourism in this region.

Tourists value of the very place is represented by its cultural - historic monuments, out of which the most significant one is old cottage church from 15. century in the village Seča Reka (Rivercutter). It got today’s appearance   A number of very valuable displays can be found in this church: large number of icons, “Zlatne dveri” (”Golden doors”) brought from Herzegovina, chalice from the year 1812. and the relic brought here from the Holly Mountain Atos, Greece. The thing that you most certainly must see are Taorska vrela (Taoric springs) (village Makovište), unique spring with mountain water waterfalls, heights from two to ten meters.

Ethnographic values, traditional folk customs, clothes, folklore and cuisine, are represented each year on theater plays and manifestations, out of which the most significant one is “Čobanski dani” (Shepherds days) - manifestation of traditional folk art and creations, which is held in the beginning of July each year.

Villages in Kosjerić municipality, which we have visited, give all conditions for organization and conducting the program “nature classroom”. Also, the region gives all conditions for hiking, fishing (Field Maple, gudgeon, salema) and hunting the large and small game.

History has also given this region many events and people after whom were preserved cultural - historical monuments. The creation of first modern Serbian state began in Takovo, under the banner of Miloš Obrenović, of which can testify museum, cottage church and Second Serbian Uprising. From the oldest Court building in Serbia, legendary General Mišić commanded the Battle of Kolubara. While you are here it would be a pity not to visit the monasteries: Vraćevšnica (15 century) which is located on the road Gornji Milanovac - Kragujevac, Vujan (19 century) on the part of  Ibar main route from Gornjeg Milanovca to Čačak, but also the monasteries Voljavča and Nikolje on the Rudnik mountain hills. The large number of thermo mineral springs, unfortunately unused are located in the bottom of cliff mountains: Mlakovac, Brđani, Svračkovci and Savinac. Savinac is linked with a legend which says that by this road had passed St. Sava and that you can see the foot print of his horse in the stone. Miloš Obrenović raised here his first endowment, in memory of his wife princess Ljubica. In the churchyard reside the bones of the daughter of Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, Mina, a poet and a painter.

Mount Javor http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/mount-javor/ http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/mount-javor/#comments Tue, 24 Aug 2010 11:19:40 +0000 admin http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/?p=75 Mountain of song and history

Legend says that the famous hero Boško Jugović wounded went from field of Kosovo after the Battle of Kosovo on the mountain Javor, to heal his wounds. He knew that this mountain cures with its clear streams, healing herbs even the greatest illnesses. Even today, this is an interesting touristic spot, full of history, tales, legends and hospitable people…

Long travelled the warrior on his trusty steed. Wounded, torn out. Far away is the field of Kosovo. And one day he arrived to one hill atop of the town of Ivanjica. They say, people cured his wounds for a long time. They cured him with herbs and ailments from the mountains Javor and Golija, but there were no cure for the warrior. Legend says he died here. He was buried here. Centuries later they built a church on that spot. On exact spot of the grave of the ancient warrior. The tale and belief is that here lay the bones of the none other than the ancient warrior hero Boško Jugović. The nine centuries old oaks bring great shade in the place. The people of these parts planted them in memory of all Jugović brothers. And when you go on you will come by mount Javor, that heroic and historical mountain. Mountain on which, in every war, great battles were fought, blood was given and lives were given, for Serbia…

Nurturing that given from creation

img_9536.jpg Nature has given many things to the mount Javor which is located 30 km from the town of Ivanjica. You can rarely find this kind of nature. Its height is 1500 meters, lots of springs and streams. Probably the same giving nature made also the people here full of spirit and joy. You can not pass through any village and not be greeted, and welcomed. Every traveler and guest is welcome here.

And there are hundreds of reasons to come to the villages on mount Javor. Nature is intact. The locals nurture only that what was given to them from the creation of the world. Pine trees, pastures with plenty of healing herbs, forest strawberries, mushrooms. Many that came to this parts with the bronchitis, asthma, anemia problems, came back home revitalized, cured. Javor is genuine air spa. It is enough only to go, from the first dawn, by its paths, drink spring water and you will feel better. Scientific researches has shown that these areas have high concentration of iodine from the pine forests.

Mount Javor is pretty in every season. In hot days it is real enjoyment to come here. Sun is shining but it is not singeing, forests, cool mountain water will make your stay more than pleasant.

Every villager here is a true encyclopedia of knowledge. Here, the tradition is respected, ancestors and the thing that makes them specially proud is the song. Everybody sings beautifully on mount Javor. And they do that a lot. When they are mowing, digging, reaping. You can always hear the song. “Wind is blowing from Golija, gone is my Andjelija”, they are singing. And mount Golija is right there near them. These people proudly wear Serbian waistcoat and Serbian hat, playing the flute and diple. The young and the old…

Serbia was defended here

img_9577.jpg Until the Balkan war in 1912 on mount Javor was Serbian-Turkish border. From long times ago in Devići, Kušići, Katići lived fighters, heroes that did not give in to others for even a foot of their country. They cherished it as their greatest treasure. Mount Javor is called historical mountain. It has every reason to be called that. The battles were fought here in 1804, and in Javor war from 1876 to 1878 and in the Balkan war. Local remember with pride and reverence of their own heroes. Those who come to this mountain will be by all means shown the monument to major Ilić, who left his life here, defending Javor. They made him a monument from which he can, even now observe and guard his fellow countrymen from Javor. The elder local say that he was born in the vicinity of Jagodina, but that he defended thi place like here was his berth house. They also say that if Boško Jugović could have made it to Javor and Golija, he would survive. He would be cured by mountain water, clean air. That was probably the reason why he went to Javor, so the elders say. He knew that this mountain had a cure for everyone.

Easy and quick arrival

vila-angelina-kusici.jpg Villages in vicinity of Javor and Golija are involved, for a long time now, in village tourism. They can offer much to the tourists. Year after year grows the number of those who wish to come here and spend their vacation in nature and tranquility. From the town of Ivanjica to the village of Kušići you must travel about 30 km. Roads are paved with asphalt so you can reach this tourist destination easily and quickly.

Nature park – river Uvac canyon http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/nature-park-river-uvac-canyon/ http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/nature-park-river-uvac-canyon/#comments Mon, 16 Aug 2010 14:12:40 +0000 admin http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/?p=47 „One can observe nature with intent to get to know her, to defend from her or to use it for his own purposes. It is hard for one who observes it with different intents, thoughts or emotions” Ivo Andrić

Griffin vulture castle

Visit to the river Uvac canyon, with many beautiful lakes and caves, one hundred year old forests and rare plant and animal life represents unforgettable experience which you can not experience anywhere else.

Special nature reserve “Uvac”, premier category natural estate of great importance, is located on south western Serbia, on territories of municipalities Sjenica and Nova Varoš. This reservation of untouched nature, nurtures and feeds in its bosoms various animal and plant species. The presence of very rare kind of vulture, very few in numbers – griffon vulture, makes this area unique. The griffon vulture nests in certain parts of gorge, on rocks, covered cliffs and caves above water.
Cooperation between man and nature

About four decades ago in the canyon, which was formed by river Uvac for centuries, on its 115 kilometer on the long road from Pešter to Valey of Lim, three hydro accumulations were formed – Uvac, Zlatar and Radoinje lake. Some time ago the electric power manufacture from these accumulations represented 65 % of total manufacture in Serbia. By building great facility systems in Serbia the significance of hydro plants is diminished, but Uvac has still remained important in Serbian plant system, because of its natural and geographic values. Although the part of the canyon is submerged by constructing three artificial lakes, which gave the entire area a new scenery, the gorge of river Uvac is still lively, a at its beauty is breath taking even for those who have witnessed various world wonders. Today, through lively Uvac canyon in the vicinity of Nova Varoš, by foot and boats, great number of nature lovers and rare vulture lovers – griffon vulture lovers, which is, because its wing span of 2.8m and astounding flight, rightfully called King of the Skies.

King of Heights from the coat of arms of Nemanjić dinasty

turizam-serbia-4.jpg Griffon vulture is, by many things, unique bird. It is one of the four vulture species which inhabits Europe, but the only one with habitat in Serbia. It has a long life span, about fifty years. With its weight up to 15 kilograms and wing span of about three meters it looks very powerful and represent an air attraction. Because of its beauty and powerful features, but also the way of life it has often been called “mythical” bird. Watching it, while it cruises the skies, man has for centuries given significance to its perfect flight. That has borne belief that griffon vulture can predict the storm, chase away the clouds, and foresee unhappy events. Griffon vulture also had its place among the medieval Serbian aristocracy. Two headed griffon vulture can be recognized on the coat of arms of royal house of Nemanjić, coat of arms of houses of Mrnjavčević, Lazerević and Crnojević, and the best preserved coat of arms of griffon vulture is located on the south wall of the Lazarica church in Kruševac. In the past, griffon vulture had its habitats all over Serbia, but with the societies negligence and with diminishing of cattle fond it came almost to extinction. Because it feeds mainly with dead even-toed ungulates and other large mammals, griffon vulture has a role of nature cleaner, because of its unique way of feeding it prevents spreading the diseases. You can see him today on only three locations in Serbia – In canyons of rivers Trešnjica, Mileševka and Uvac. More serious activities on colony protections in river Uvac canyon have been taken three decades ago, thanks to the locals and employees in Uvac reserve. It is yearly “served” in “restaurants” or feeding pools for griffin vultures about 50 tons of classic waste and died cattle. After everything that has been done for their protection, number of griffon vultures has came from seven pairs (which was their number in 1993.!) on today’s three hundred animals. This colony of griffon vultures is today the largest in Balkans and one of the largest in Europe.

Breath taking nature

River that carries many secrets, besides bird lovers, is often been visited by large number of tourists. Boat ride through meanders of Uvac river is something you will remember for a long time. Uvac is racing through the curves which are more lake a maze with no way out rather then a river flow. Stone walls of the gorge, which is in some places so narrow that you will have difficulties to go through even by boat, are white at the bottom, polished by water, and in heights are gray and black, covered by bushes. turizam-serbia-10.jpg In the nests formed beneath cavities and rock porches, about hundred meters above water, you can find nests of griffon vultures, who have chosen the river Uvac canyon for one of their last habitats in this part of Europe. After thirty minutes of boat rides, you cross by boat across the rock bridge on Žvale, which is a part of the remains of Emperial road from Dubrovnik to Carigrad (Istanbul – Emperor city). With a tour through the canyon you will find also one of the caves of the Ušac system – Ice cave, in which you can enter both from the land and from water. Beauty of this cave is in its halls with big white pillars, crossed with red and blue shades. Once you are up on one of the many viewpoints, from the griffon vulture perspective you can observe natures masterpiece – meanders of river Uvac.
That which certainly stands this natural jewel apart from other tourist destinations is that it has not changed beside the fact of increased numbers of tourists and visitors, and it has not lost anything of it authenticity. You will not see skyscrapers or large mansions. Here houses steel give the warmth of true village home, and in those houses is prepared the food based on the recipes of our ancestors. But, to make the adventure complete, you must experience this for yourself…

Flora and fauna

Beside the griffon vulture you can also see others endanger bird species, like Golden eagle and osprey, eagle owl, mountain wall creeper, and common merganser. On the gorge area are recorded total of 216 plant and 400 bird species, and its habitat in these parts have also found bears, lynxes, and otter, as well as many species of endemic insects and bats which are listed in European red list of rare and endangered fauna species. In meanders lives also the huchen, noble fish species, brought nearly to extinction but it has found its peace here.

What else to visit?

You can start touring river Uvac canyon from the dams on Uvac and Zlatar lake on Rastoke, and in Kokin Brod, ten kilometers from Nova Varoš. On the edges of the canyon were raised two wooden churches in villages Kućani and Radijevići with icons of priceless value, and in the village Božetići is located the monastery Dubnica which was recently reconstructed after three centuries in ruins. At about 15 kilometers from the dam in Rastoke, on old road for Ivanjica, is also located ethnic village Štitkovo with residential housings made of timber, built at the end of 19 century.

Hadžisup (great griffon vulture)

By following griffon vultures through rings and wing marks it has been determined that young birds from Uvac go even 2.000 kilometers away from their native colony. The most famous of them is Hadžisup – 4, griffon vulture which has settled in Israel and which has, with the help of local ornithologist “sent” his photograph. The largest number of griffon vultures flies to Bulgaria and Greece, but they return later to their home land. That is the reason it is said for them that they rule the Balkan skies.

Do not miss to try: buckwheat pie, paprika in milk cream, beef smoked ham, forest strawberries preserve and wild pear brandy.

Zasavica http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/zasavica/ http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/zasavica/#comments Mon, 16 Aug 2010 14:07:59 +0000 admin http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/?p=43 Special nature reserve

In the times when the skies ruled dragons of Mačva, through Zasavica flowed river Drina. In time it was replaced by the river Sava, elves and goblins… But then Drina again wanted her. And then it was left alone, without spring and river mouth, without flow, without name. Somewhat forgotten. Zasavica went after river Sava, clear and transparent like the young girl’s tear. Not fast, not deep… From that mirror, at night, the dancing shadows and things appear, to glorify nature. And so it goes on for centuries…

The locals named it long ago The Pond and they know it now only by that name. The reason for that is green carpet sowed with rich plant material, which in some places greatly slows the flow of this small river, so you have the impression it stands still. But, although hidden, springs fill it unselfishly with holly and clear water of life.
History records that in these swamp regions of northern Mačva, around 5000 BC, people hae been making swamp colonnades, draining and irrigating the swamp soil. So the flows of Sava and hasty Drina have intertwined, meanders formed, the scenery of the region has changed. Time has past, and legends and myths left their traces in people conciseness that the giants made this giant deeds, or that these are dragon trails, dragon nests, which brought stranght and fertility to the land. And that dragons lived in the past here, it is also written in Celtic maps. There were eight of such places in Balkans. Including Zasavica. You have, by these maps, travelled here on the wings of dragons – and you came in well preserved nature. It was preserved like that by the dragons, guardians of unmeasured legendary treasures solely by their sheer strength, or it was actually done by men, sometimes dragon like.

By the national protection

Special nature reserve Zasavica is located on the south of Vojvodina, namely north Mačva, east from the river Drina and south of river Sava, on the territories of municipalities Sremska Mitrovica and Bogatić. Quiet and tam, like the lowland river, it has made possible the survival of various plant and animal life. To preserve this life, Zasavica itself, and here coastal areas was put under the national protection, about ten years ago, as a natural estate of exceptional significance.
Zasavica is home for 700 plant species, 180 bird species, about twenty fish species and as much amphibian and reptile species. Intertwine of meadows, forests, wide coasts and water itself makes the frame to the beauty an variety of plant and animal life. Something rare exists even between them
Lively changes from forests to wet meadows, to wide coasts and the water itself, riches of the plant and animal species, traditional way of living near the river pictured through the folklore and day to day life, historical legacy which reaches in to the ancient times, gives the visitor rare, attractive and unique touristic contents throughout the whole year.

„Diet” pork for a healthy life

Near the lake, inside the complex, there is a farm where you can find swollow-bellied mangulica, probably the first kind of domestic pig in evolution process of taming. It is said that its meat has less cholesterol. Diet pork for a healthy life (but not the pigs)! Pigs have rested in great shade of its cabin and they haven’t given us even a glance. Besides the mangulica the farm has very rare specimens of podolian black ox, as well as domestic potent Balkan donkey. Recently, the Bavarian government has returned its former resident, the European beaver, which is now esteemed resident of this beautiful reserve.
Much has been written on Zasavica, through stories and poems, but the prettiest tale you will hear from the river itself. Still we have to emphasize that the good willed hosts have the biggest credit for gentle care of the river, the same hosts that live near and live with Zasavica.
It is said that even in now days there are dragons living in Zasavica. You may wonder how to recognize them. They say: “ He is black and hairy from below and from above he is as shine and smooth as otter”. And since recently people have seen otter in Zasavica after many years, Nature Conservation Movement of Sremska Mitrovica has offered a reward for anyone that records otter on camera. Or maybe it was a dragon…?

How to get there?

You can get to Zasavice easily when you go through Sremska Mitrovica on your way to Mačvanska Mitrovica and you go on straight to Zasavica. You can see the information boards all over road sides, so if you follow them you most certainly will not get lost.
Boat and Prussian carp on disk harrow

You can see Zasavica on a new tourist boat which characteristics have specially been adjusted to this purpose. This boat is special for the fact that it is only original World War II boat built in Serbian shipyards. After the boat ride and inspired Miša’s story (Miša is a local ranger), you will go back to the center of the reserve, where lunch is largely on its way. Along with domestic brandy and turkey stew with pasta, or famous fish stew and Prussian carp on disk harrow, you will be even more eager for climbing on tourist tower where you can spyglass look at rich Zasavica environment.

Mokra Gora http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/mokra-gora/ http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/mokra-gora/#comments Mon, 16 Aug 2010 14:06:06 +0000 admin http://www.turisticki-adresar.com/eng/?p=41 Most beautiful dawns rise there…

When a poet saw it, he wrote, “Most beautiful downs rise there, somewhere neae Mokra Gora”. One couldn’t say if it is more beautiful at the ruse of dawn, or at the fall of sunset, when the moon slowly shines on all glades, water springs and hills of this beauty. Noble traveler, you must see it, experience it for yourself. And you can experience it only when you hear the Ćira’s hoot, if you wash your face from the water of Jovan’s springs.
Ćira is running again…

Mokra Gora (Wet Mountain) is the village which is located on the mountain borders of mountains Tara and Zlatibor. Before it became tourist destination and attraction, it was little village with about thousand inhabitants, which have, like most of the people from mountain regions, been primarily occupied with agriculture. For a long time Mokra Gora was our undiscovered treasure, jewel we did not know about or did not want to show to others. And there is much to see and show here. Its was not named Mokra Gora (Wet Mountain) for no reason. There are water springs on every step, hills, forests also… There was a narrow railway till the year 1974. that ran through Mokra Gora. It connected this region with Sarajevo. For a long time a steam locomotive broke through rocky narrows and high slits between Šargam and Mokra Gora and made this unusual trail way. It was a genuine and only window to the world for the people of this region. And one day it was canceled. The women cried for Ćira (an ancient steam locomotive), men were shook their heads and mourned for their only window to the world. They remembered the words of the prophet Tarabić who nevertheless said that “the iron road with which people were going once will be renewed, but this time it will serve for fun and enjoyment”. And it was so. Firstly thanks to the society “Šarganska osmica” (Šargan eight) Mokra Gora came alive again in these last few years. This time as a real tourist destination located between mountains Tara and Zlatibor brings tourists from all over for a ride with old Ćira. And a resident of Mokra Gora which is already considered a long time native here is famous movie director Emir Kusturica who constructed, on the hill Mećavnik, an ethnic village “Drvengrad” “Wooden Town” , in Mokra Gora.

Like it was lived in it…

Mećavnik and Drvengrad in it has loomed over Mokra Gora itself. It is on same height level with railway station Jatare through which goes Šargan eight. Drvengrad is an ethnic villagein town features and shape. It has rectangular shape with longer axis on one end where is located entry gate, and on the other end there is a small wooden church. Church is built in Russian wooden church style and it is dedicated to the saint St. Sava. In the central part of the village is a square paved with wooden plates and cut wooden doorsteps and it is surrounded with log cabins. Log cabins are authentic and were directly transported, some from these parts and some from Bosnia and as skeletons set on wooden pedestals. Each of them holds contents which are markings of an actual town: gallery library, cinema, pastry shop, restaurant, this region native souvenir shop.

Expert jury of Brussels Architecture Foundation Phillipe Rotthier has declared this Kusturica construction the best architecture achievement in the last three years in Europe. Emir Kusturica explains Drvengrad through words: “I have invented the town which looks like people lived in it in past times. And they never have…”
The moon goes down, here comes the sun…

Attention of many visitors of Mokra Gora, besides Šargan eight and Drvengrad, draws also many healing springs. According to some data you can find dozens of mineral springs here. Because the fact that Mokra Gora lies on one of the large nickel finding, most of the springs has high concentration of dissolved ions. Please note that some of the known springs are healing springs, but some of them are toxic. The most famous healing springs in Mokra Gora are “Bele vode” (White waters) which heal, as they say here, the eye illnesses. About hundred meters for “White waters” are Jovan’s springs, which was named thus a long time ago in the celebration of St. John the Baptist (St. Jovan – in Serbian).

We must also mention the nature who has not saved its beauty for these parts. For those intent to travel to Mokra Gora, it is enough to say that you can not see or experience Mokra Gora for one day. You should wait the dawn and sunset and follow the moon through its heavenly path to his resting grounds here in Mokra Gora.
The thing that for sure sets apart this mountain beauty from other tourist destinations, is that, no matter the number of tourists and visitors has grown greatly large, it has not lost nothing of its authenticity. You will not see skyscrapers here, or great mansions. The houses here are made from wood, the roofs covered with ćeramida (canal shaped roof tiles), and here every restaurant kept the warmth of real village home. Here they are preparing the food on our grandmothers recipes. But you must experience these parts for yourself… There is only one Wet Mountain…
